THE KENNEL CLUB (KC) is the ruling body of the world of pedigree dogs in the UK, and is increasingly extending its remit to cover all dogs. Its headquarters are in Clarges Street in London's West End and the registration department is based in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.
It runs the world’s most famous dog show - Crufts.
The KC’s object is 'to promote in every way the general improvement in dogs' with activities centred around the registration of purebred puppies, the licensing of shows and competitive events in other disciplines and providing a framework of rules to govern these activities.
It consists of up to 1,500 members who elect a General Committee and in turn various sub-committees are appointed.
The KC’s chairman is Ronnie Irving, vice-chairman Bill Hardaway, chief executive Rosemary Smart and secretary Caroline Kisko.
The club's president is Prince Michael of Kent.
